218 Years of Vermont Hospitality
Our Story
A Home for Two Centuries
McIndoe Falls itself is a village steeped in heritage. Settled in the 1770s
primarily by Scottish immigrants — drawn by rolling green hills and clean rivers
that reminded them of home — the area became one of the most prosperous corners
of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.
At its height, McIndoe Falls boasted the largest lumber operation in northern
Vermont, employing 80 workers and producing 15 million board feet annually.
The historic McIndoes Academy, founded in 1853, still stands and is listed on
the National Register of Historic Places.
"Although the Inn contains many antiques, valuable furnishings and curios
from around the world, the effect is engaging and welcoming, like a richly
appointed, elegant but relaxing country lodge."
— TripAdvisor Guest Review
Gloria Laborie and family have called this inn home and hearth for over
50 years. Their deep knowledge of the region — its hidden swimming holes,
best foliage drives, local events, and the rhythms of the seasons — is yours
to draw on.
